Footballers and track athletes constantly argue over their running speeds.
After losing a 400m race to Alica Schmidt, Mats Hummels would disagree that footballers can run faster than track athletes.
As part of a commercial partnership, German 400m sprinter Alica Schmidt was hired as a fitness coach for Borussia Dortmund players in 2020. She trained Thomas Meunier, Felix Passlack, Manuel Akanji, and Mats Hummels.
Schmidt and Hummels raced 400m. The sprinter shared her race with the player on Instagram. She wrote:
German 400m sprinter Alica Schmidt won medals in the 4x400m relay at the 2017 and 2019 European Athletics U20 and U23 Championships.
2022 Oregon World Championships. She was on the 2020 Tokyo Olympics team but did not compete.
She told the Free Press Journal about her 400m win over Mats Hummels.
She said she wouldn't race Jadon Sancho or the fastest Bundesliga players right now.
Schmidt downplayed her Hummels win. She said the footballer wanted a rematch and she was ready for it anytime. She believed he could win.
